Creedmoor Commissioner Darryl Moss Appointed to N.C. Oil and Gas Commission
After years of serving Creedmoor, one Granville County leader has found his way to a new statewide role.
Gov. Josh Stein announced on Sept. 22 that Creedmoor Commissioner Darryl Moss has been appointed to the North Carolina Oil and Gas Commission, placing a local government voice from Granville County at a table dealing with oil and natural gas development across the state.

Moss was selected for a seat specifically designated for an elected municipal official from a region of North Carolina with oil and gas potential.
“This is a tremendous honor,” said Moss. “I would like to thank Gov. Stein for the confidence and the opportunity. I will do my best to represent Creedmoor, our region and North Carolina to the best of my ability.”
Why This Commission Matters
The NC Oil and Gas Commission is a 9-member commission that is part of the NC Department of Environmental Quality. Its work centers on how oil and natural gas exploration and development are regulated in North Carolina.

Basically, the commission helps establish the rules for where and how oil and gas exploration and development can take place in North Carolina and what protections must be followed.
Under state law, this commission adopts the rules needed to administer the state's Oil and Gas Conservation Act. It also establishes drilling areas and the spacing of wells, regulates activities that happen before drilling begins and regulates oil and gas production.
The commission considers protection of public health and safety, private and public property and North Carolina's air, water and other natural resources, while also addressing economic development and the development of the state's oil and gas resources.
Bringing Local Experience to a Bigger Table
Moss brings years of experience that connects directly to that work. According to the Governor’s Office,
“Moss has previous experience as an appointed representative in municipal government on the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission and as chairman of the Water Allocations Committee and the Air Remission Committee. He has also worked with the city of Creedmoor to upgrade the water and wastewater system and represented the city in the Capitol Area Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Upper Neuse River Basin Association."
Now, that local experience is moving to a statewide table.

For Creedmoor and Granville County, Moss’s appointment is also a reminder that the work happening in small towns and local communities can become part of much bigger conversations across North Carolina.
