Sweet & Savory Is The Place To Go In Louisburg

When I arrived at Sweet & Savory by Chef Tandra, I was just expecting to taste some dessert. But after walking into the shop, I quickly realized that I would be carrying away something much greater than a slice of lemon cheesecake.

After speaking with the chef and owner, Tandra Strickland, I walked away knowing what it means for someone to believe in a dream, work for years without any guarantee of success, and finally create a place where the community can experience the results of it.

I did, of course, try Chef Tandra Strickland’s lemon cheesecake and I can definitely say that Sweet & Savory is a place Louisburg should know, visit, recommend, and support!

The Lemon Cheesecake That Stopped Me in My Tracks

The taste of lemon in a dessert can be hard to get right. Either too much sugar can hide the lemon, and too much tartness can overpower everything else. But somehow Chef Tandra found the perfect balance that makes you appreciate every bite.

It wasn’t too sweet or tart and it had enough lemon flavor to make the dessert refreshing. The filling was smooth, creamy, and rich, while the crust added the perfect texture to bring it all together. I’ve never had lemon cheesecake before but this won’t be my last time.

So if you love lemon, cheesecake, or simply a dessert that tastes as though it was made with love, this is the place to go. Let us know in the comments what you end up trying.

A Small Shop Built From a Powerful Dream

Chef Tandra’s journey started in Raleigh, where she built a life with her husband and three children while pursuing her dream of becoming a chef.

“God and family are the foundation of my success,” she said.

In 2010, she enrolled in culinary school at the Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham, maintained a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, and earned two culinary awards in American Culinary Federation professional competitions.

She started Sweet & Savory catering in 2011 and graduated from culinary school in 2012, turning her goal into a profession through years of hard work. Her business grew to include catering and a mobile food truck, and today customers can visit her Louisburg shop and experience her journey in person.

Why Supporting Local Businesses Matters

We often say that we want more opportunities for small businesses, but that requires more than just encouraging words. We as the community need to walk through those doors, spend our money locally, and actually support local businesses like this one.

When we support local businesses like Sweet and Savory, we are not only buying desserts. We are proving to the world that talent, creativity, and determination can grow right here in our community.
