October is when local governments begin moving farther into the work of the new fiscal year. With budgets in place and the first few months of the fiscal year underway, boards may be reviewing how projects are processed, approving contracts and spending, considering new proposals, and responding to the needs that come up across the counties. 

This is why October is so important. It's a month to pay attention, not only to what is on the agenda, but to what is being discussed, approved, delayed, funded, or changed by your local leaders.
